Discussion on EU investments in the development of the north of Montenegro
On November 13, 2014, representatives of the municipality of Rožaje, Mensur Kalender, Amela Kalender and Arnela Ahmatović, attended an open discussion on EU investments in the development of the north of Montenegro, which was organized in Bijelo Polje. The discussion was organized by the NGO FORS Montenegro within the project "Let's talk about EU-2", which is supported by the EU.
The meeting was attended by representatives of northern municipalities, the Head of the European Integration Policy and Economy Sector of the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, Albert Kamara, and the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Zoran Irić.
Those present presented their visions for the development of the north of Montenegro, and Mr. Kamara explained how it is possible to achieve them through the aid programs of the European Union. At the meeting, it was emphasized that a solution should be sought for existing economic problems through the sustainable use of natural and economic resources, because the entire northern region has significant resources in the fields of agriculture, tourism, hydropower, forestry, drinking water and other resources.
At the end of the discussion, it was concluded that it is necessary to unite at all levels, in order to get closer to the visions we have for the development of the north of Montenegro. Mr. Kamara emphasized that the European Union has so far provided significant financial support to the municipalities in the north and will continue to do so, but that it is very important that the local administration, entrepreneurs, farmers and the civil sector have enough skills to present projects and to continuously develop their capacities in in accordance with the constant changes in society.
