ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH BEGINS IN ROZAJE
Today, the archaeological and conservation research began at the Izlit fortress in Gradina, above the Ganić karst in Rožaje.
There are written traces that the fort was built in the 16th century. It is believed that this fort was demolished and rebuilt several times in the past. The fortification is buried in soil and it cannot be determined exactly how deep it is in the ground. It is believed that there is a wall 100 meters long at this place. Inside the wall are foundations, watchtowers and towers.
Funds for this research were provided by the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro as part of the Government program "Protection of cultural property for 2015". The project is realized by the Ganića Kula Museum from Rožaj in cooperation with the Polim Museum from Beran.
