Reconstruction and rehabilitation of the ski lifts on Turjak is planned
When a catering and tourism company was formed as part of the former GIR, it had 360 beds in two "B" category hotels, Hotel Rožaje and Hotel Turjak (with 170 beds) and several smaller catering establishments.
The Rožaj area had optimal conditions for the development of winter sports at an altitude of 1,200-1,600 meters above sea level, where snow remains for 120 days a year. It was planned to build a winter recreation complex (center) "Skrivena" - II phase of the tourist center "Turjak" with 3 hotels with 1,250 beds, 18 villas, 10 cable cars and accompanying sports facilities.
In the meantime, 2600 hectares of the territory of the Municipality of Rožaje was annexed to Berane. It was the territory where ski fields were to be built, and the territory abounds in first-class coniferous forest.
Today, the ski slopes on Turjak are overgrown with weeds, and the rest of the infrastructure is deteriorating more and more. In order to stop the negative trend, the local administration of Rožaje, headed by Mr. Ejup Nurković, decided to reconstruct and restore this once widely known ski resort, so that it could once again become a place for recreational skiing, on the slopes of which ski skills are demonstrated. acquired and perfected by many residents of Rožaj and guests from abroad.
On this occasion, yesterday the President of the Municipality, Mr. Nurković, visited the future ski fields with his associates in order to get better acquainted with the situation on the field and to find the best possible solution for re-qualifying the ski field and putting it into operation.
An elaboration and project documentation have been prepared, and a tender for the reconstruction will be announced in the next few days. Renovation of track I and track II, as well as supporting infrastructure, including parking space and provision of ski equipment for rental. A complete reconstruction of the ski lifts is planned, where a new traction station with new cables and traction anchors will be installed, which, in addition to being of better quality and comfort, will move at a higher speed, which will increase the atmosphere and provide maximum pleasure for lovers of this sport.
The tourist organization, headed by director Amel Dedeić, who with his team, has been participating in this project since the beginning and is one of the initiators of the revitalization of Turjak. It is worth emphasizing that the restart of the "Turjak" Ski Center will create conditions for new jobs, both during the reconstruction work itself and after the ski resort is put into operation. The Plan includes the acquisition of cannons for snowmaking as well as a special "Ratrak" vehicle for plowing ski slopes. A children's ski lift is also provided, so that the little ones will be able to experience this winter sport in the right way and that Rožaje will once again become the "nursery" of ski champions and talents such as: Tarik Hadžić, Dženis Nurković, Ilda and Denis Šabotić...
