A SEMINAR ON THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST OF PUBLIC OFFICERS WAS HELD IN ROŽAJE
Reduced number of public officials entering into conflict of interest
Organized by the Commission for the Prevention of Conflicts of Interest of Montenegro and Local Government, a seminar on the conflict of interest of public officials was held in Rožaje, in which participants Local public officials of the municipalities of Rožaje, Berane and Petnjica, judges and prosecutors, state public officials, the NGO sector and the media.
The participants of the educational seminar were greeted by Mr. Ejup Nurković, the President of the Municipality, assessed that this is a very important topic in order to expand knowledge in the field of conflicts of interest, especially at the time of negotiations for our country's entry into the EU.
The President of the Commission, Dr. Slobodan Leković, informed the participants of the meeting in detail about the way of work and the achieved results of the Commission in the previous period, especially expressing satisfaction that the number of public officials who come into conflict of interest has decreased compared to a few years before.
I am very glad that a large number of those who should attend responded to our call, because it shows the interest of local public officials to familiarize themselves with the new legal provisions so that they do not end up in a situation where they are violated, said Leković.
Clarifying the term conflict of interest, he said
Carrying out a public function implies a high level of legal responsibility and high ethical standards, which means that he does not put private interest before public interest, in order to gain material benefits or privileges for him or the persons connected to him - said Leković.
At the seminar, guests-experts from the region, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, Branko Pertrić, member of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hasan Pretani, director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kosovo, spoke about experiences in this area in their countries.
Goranka Vučinić, Ivo Đoković and Ana Raičević presented the Commission's obligations arising from the Action Plans for the fight against corruption and organized crime, conducting proceedings before the Commission, amendments to the Law on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest and Restrictions on the Performance of Public Functions.
During the discussion, the seminar participants showed interest in the interpretation of certain legal provisions.
