Negotiation chapter 28 Consumer and health protection presented in Rožaje
A presentation of the project "Let's talk about EU-2" was held in Rožaje, organized by the FORS Montenegro Foundation. As explained by Maja Garović, the organizer's representative, the negotiation chapter 28-Consumer and health protection was presented.
- This chapter deals with topics related to the interests of citizens, and concerns consumer policy, security and economic interests, and public health. It is also necessary to raise awareness and for consumers to be actively involved in this process, in order to contribute to better information and more successful implementation of the legal acquis in that area, said Garović.
She clarified that the project is implemented in municipalities in the north in cooperation with local administrations and that it aims to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens from that part of Montenegro about the EU as a whole, its values, the functioning of its institutions and the process of integration through a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness of this topic and active involvement of target groups.
Melita Rastoder-Ljaić, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, spoke about the negotiation process, the way the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates that process and how Montenegro communicates with the EC, that is, how that process works.
Marina Radulović from the Directorate for Inspection Affairs informed the audience about EU regulations in the area of consumer rights and public health. She said that by harmonizing national legislation with EU regulations, we want to contribute to the protection of consumers in our country, to know what their consumer rights are and how to exercise those rights, as well as to raise comprehensive awareness among citizens about the importance of this coast in Montenegro - said Radulović.
Mensur Kalender, a representative of the municipality of Rožaje, emphasized the importance of bringing the process of negotiations between Montenegro and the EU closer to the citizens of Rožaje, especially through interactive activities such as lectures, seminars, debates, etc. The topics of consumer protection and health are very topical for the citizens of Rožaj, primarily because awareness of the rights and obligations of consumers as well as patients is at a low level. The municipality is ready to cooperate with all relevant institutions as well as NGOs that aim to raise citizens' awareness of the negotiation process as a whole.
At this gathering, it was said that the "Let's talk about EU-2" project, in addition to consumer protection and health, includes other activities such as the celebration of EU month, public presentations about the EU and the integration process, promotion of the Instruments for Pre-Accession Assistance - IPA and projects supported through this mechanism, workshops in primary and secondary schools and the creation and distribution of promotional material and publications.
