LIVE: Emergency situation in Rožaje, rivers overflowed, many houses flooded

Due to the heavy rain that has been falling continuously for almost 48 hours, the water level of the rivers in Rožaje has reached an almost unprecedented height, and there has been an overflow from the riverbed, where great material damage has occurred, and the rain is still falling with the same intensity.

03:00 The president of the municipality, Mr. Ejup Nurković, visits the area and the citizens and says that the material damage is very large and that the Protection and Rescue Service is trying to meet the citizens in accordance with its capabilities. Among other things, President Nurković calls on all citizens who are not directly threatened by the flood to come out and help their neighbors and fellow citizens deal with this extraordinary situation, the President emphasizes.

These are difficult moments for us and our citizens, and the rain still does not stop, and the meteorological forecast is not promising because rain is expected in the coming days.

The municipal rescue service, according to Nuradin Agović, the head of the local rescue service, is on the ground with complete personnel and machinery and they are trying to repair the damage caused by the water spill.

The families living on the banks of the Lovnička River are unable to cope with the water drifts where many houses are flooded and the water has penetrated into the basement rooms and some citizens have been carried away by the torrent of firewood. The houses of Hsejin and Husnija Husić, Mursel and Fazlija Kurpejović, Fadil Mujković, Rasim Murić aka (Jaran) and many others located in Oslobođenja Street near the Lovnička River were directly affected by the floods. The bridge towards the villages of Donja and Gornja Lovnica, Klanac, Zloglavlje was flooded by the water of the Lovnica River and was closed to traffic, and even the educators who teach in the elementary schools in the mentioned villages could not go to class.
