JU Native Museum "Ganića Kula" Rožaje, was founded by the decision of SO Rožaje on April 26, 1991.

The museum was conceived as a complex type institution with the task of collecting, preserving, presenting and publishing original testimonies about the life and customs of the people in the area of Rožaj, with the aim of adequately valorizing the past and satisfying the tourist development component of the city.

The museum is housed in a historic building, a renovated and adapted Ganić tower built at the beginning of the 18th century, which is the symbol of the city and is on the official coat of arms of the municipality of Rožaje.

The activities of the Provincial Museum "Ganića Kula" Rožaje are:

  • Systematic research, collection, study, preservation, professional protection, professional and scientific processing of movable property important for culture, art, science and education, as well as publishing the results of activities;
  • Creation of favorable conditions for movable cultural assets to be preserved and to serve the satisfaction of cultural, scientific and other needs of society;
  • Collection, evaluation and purchase of exhibits from the territory covered by the institution;
  • Professional and scientific processing and protection of the institution's exhibits;
  • Conservation, reconstruction and revitalization of cultural and historical monuments;
  • The institution carries out regular protection of things related to the history of society, the life and work of prominent personalities, archaeological objects, collections that have historical value as a whole, individual specimens of old money, medals, decorations, seals, collections of postal and tax stamps.
  • The right to manage exhibits and other cultural assets belongs to the founder, i.e. the institution established by the Municipality. [Native museum]
